The Nevada Tahoe Conservation District (NTCD), in partnership with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), has secured funding to implement the Lower Kingsbury Areawide BMP Retrofit Project.
The initiative supports the Lake Tahoe Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) by advancing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on high-priority developed properties in Nevada. While TRPA requires all developed properties to meet BMP standards, some sites—such as the Lower Kingsbury area (including the U.S. Post Office, Kingsbury Lodge, and Red Hut Café)—face challenges due to site constraints that limit on-site stormwater infiltration.
This project proposes a shared, areawide approach to treat runoff more effectively, reduce nonpoint source pollution, and improve water quality in Edgewood Creek by removing coverage from sensitive lands and installing Low Impact Development (LID) features.
